How to filter your library in the Music app on iPhone and iPad

Filter Your Music Library on iPhone

If you have hundreds or thousands of songs in your Music library, it can be tough to find what you need. And although the Music app has had a Search feature, iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 brought improvements to that tool.

When you search your library, you no longer have to scroll to see your search results in artists, albums, and songs. With handy filters, you can jump to the category you want to find what you need. Here’s how to filter your library in the Music app on iPhone and iPad.

Filter your Music library

If you’re looking for something in your library, start by tapping the Search tab. Like before, you can tap either the Apple Music or Your Library tab to choose your search location.

Choose Your Library, enter a term into the search box, and hit Search on your keyboard. You’ll immediately see a difference. Before, you had sections to scroll through for Artists, Albums, Songs, Playlists, and Composers. But since iOS 14, you have those categories right at the top. Tap to pick one and filter your results. This gives you a quicker and clearer way to find what you’re looking for in your Music library.

You’ll also see an additional category for Top Results. This is a convenient option because it includes the top results from all categories in one spot.

You’ll notice the Apple Music tab disappear from beneath the Search field. So if you want to continue your search in Apple Music instead, just tap inside the search box. Your keyword will remain, but the Apple Music tab will reappear so you can tap it to search there.
