The Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken has officially confirmed on Twitter (via AppleInsider) this week that it will be supporting Apple Pay later this year. Unfortunately, no specific date was provided by the bank, but it does at least say that it will arrive before the end of the year. The Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken is a branch of a German savings bank and cooperative banks.

A subsequent report from Heise Online says that the Euro-Cheque card, or EC card, won’t be supported by the Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken at launch. Girocar is the producer and manager of the card, and according to that report they need more time to work out any kinks with Apple Pay support before they feel comfortable rolling it out to customers.
Nothing more to report on this front at this time. The major banking establishment’s confirmation of future Apple Pay support is light on details, but at least it’s good news for customers who have been waiting for the mobile payment option to arrive. Hopefully it arrives sooner rather than later at this point.
In related news, Apple Pay just received a major expansion across Europe, with support rolling out to 13 new areas.
Is Apple Pay supported in your neck of the woods yet? If so, how often do you use the mobile payment option?
