Leaked molds of this year’s iPhone lineup again hint at big camera upgrades for all three models. The molds reaffirm renders recently published by a number of tipsters.
Here’s what they tell us about Apple’s next-generation smartphones.
This year’s refresh isn’t likely to bring significant design changes to the iPhone, but fans are likely to see lots of big improvements. We’re expecting major enhancements in photography, in particular.
Recent rumors have hinted at additional camera lenses for all three handsets in the lineup, allowing for super-wide angle photography on the iPhone XS and XS Max successors.
Now alleged case moldings corroborate those claims.
2019 iPhone molds
Posted by Mark Gurman, who has a reliable track record of predicting Apple’s moves, the molds depict the three next-generation handsets Apple is likely to deliver this fall.
Two of them — the refreshed iPhone XS and XS Max — have three camera lenses. The other — the refreshed iPhone XR — has two. All three sport square modules with space for an LED flash and microphone.
These are the molds accessory-makers will use to manufacture cases and other products for Apple’s new smartphone lineup. They could easily be fakes, so it’s best not to read too much into them. But they certainly line up with our expectations.
Apple’s plans for this year’s iPhones
In addition to extra cameras for all three models, 2019 iPhones are rumored to feature a brand new A13 processor and reverse wireless charging, which will let you top up AirPods, Apple Watch, and other devices by placing them on the back of the phone.
